Everything in
the universe is in a process of change. The earth, geography, oceans, poles,
temperatures, people, systems and technology… They all change continuously. Cars
driven in 1970s, televisions watched in 1980s, even cutlery in kitchens and nail files used by well-groomed ladies in
1990s were totally different from those being used today. Educational systems, methods, approaches, and
tools are not an exception at all. 21st century requires different
skills which may have not been regarded as important earlier. In today’s world,
learners are encouraged to engage in such processes as collaboration, critical
thinking, communication, and creativity. Learner-centered classes force the
students to increase their flexibility, adaptability, and global awareness in
addition to the fact that teachers are asked to pay attention to individual
needs, to use real world tasks, to help the learners to advance their communicative
competence, and to encourage them to act as doers and creators. Another crucial
and indispensable duty of teachers, needless to say, is to integrate technology
into instruction meaningfully and effectively in order to enhance learning. It
is an indisputable fact that people in the 21st century are happy
with the technological developments. Therefore, as teachers we should first
accept this reality and then try to use it in such a way that will maximize the
productivity in the learning process.
