Podcast

Although I have never tried to create a podcast until this time, I felt highly comfortable while experiencing it with my classmate Esma Halıcı. Before writing about the process, I would like to convey my best regards and special thanks to my valued instructor Gökçe Kurt for introducing us such a nice and useful technology.

In our podcast project, we decided to sing a song about Snow White which a very popular character. The first step was to compose the lyrics which was not an easy job since we paid attention not only to the content but also to the form and specifically the rhyme in order to make it easier to be memorized and remembered by the young learners.

I have beautiful eyes

And a cute little nose

I live with seven dwarfs

Because I am the fairest

I live in a forest

I wait for the prince

To give me a little kiss

After completing the lyrics, we search for a suitable tool on the web. We made some practices in various websites to find the one that we were comfortable with. At the end, we decided to work with “Podomatic” and “Soundcloud.”  Voice recording practices were so enjoyable and funny to me. I think my cute partner Esma liked it as well. When we finished the podcast, we listened to it 3-4 times so as to make it sure that it became a satisfying work.

I strongly believe that podcasting is a great opportunity for the learner for whom it makes it possible to listen at anytime and anywhere. This flexible availability, undeniably, contributes to the process of learning. Requiring the audiences’ full attention, reading or watching activities are not as practical as listening. You can listen to the podcast on the bus, while brushing your teeth or cutting your nails, during the shopping, and so on. Students could be assigned to create their own podcasts which would be very useful for their self-learning. For those who have learning difficulties, podcast would be an indispensable tool because of its capacity to be reviewed again and again. It can also be regarded as make up for missed classes.

All in all, I would like to emphasize the fact that I decided to use podcasting for my lectures as much as possible despite some technical problems we had during our project because it is a useful, productive, efficient and supplementary tool which I think my students will benefit from.
